The Elisabeth Pool water play area
With the hard draught of 2007, the old paddling pool in Wimbledon Park cracked and was damaged beyond repair. The Heritage Group then went into action and found SunSafe Water Play Systems who are well known as the premier designer and constructor of kid's water play areas. Typically the SunSafe scheme has no pool water, but we wanted the fountains and a pool which became to centre of the design. The total cost of the project was around £150,000 with a contribution from Merton Council to get the funding underway. What really made the new scheme happen was a very considerable contribution from a local resident whose little girl, Elisabeth, had tragically died the year before. She had been a happy user of the old pool and so it seemed only appropriate to name the new pool after her. The Elisabeth Pool officially opened on 14 July 2007 and to say it has been a success is an understatement! The images show you the old pool and then the construction sequence through the Spring of 2007 to the official opening in July.
